Living Healthy by Eating Better

Have you ever wondered how much of the population is overweight or obese? Good or bad, people can this can be hidden from others by the clothing we wear, and much of it can be related to how each of us are built. For those that are taller, a bit of a gut or love handles may not seem like it's quite as bad as how it shows up on a  smaller framed individual.

I was told last year by a health care company that my employer utilizes that I'm or was obese. I only had to loose ten pounds and I was no longer obese. I would love to lose forty pounds, but my short term goal is twenty. If I can lose twenty pounds and keep it off for two years, I'll be doing better than I have in a long time, as I tend to lose weight in the summer and gain a bit of it back in the winter.

Last fall I was able to lose twelve pounds just by eating more vegetables than I ever had before. I gained it back in the winter because it's cold in my house and it's hard to eat cold vegetables in a cold house. I could cook them, but there are more vitamins and minerals in them if eaten raw.

I have a cousin that lost a lot of weight in the last few years and talking to him I found out that he studied a book on detoxing. He has had health issues like colitis and arthritis which he was hoping the detox would give him the relief he wasn't getting from the medicines he had been taking.

After doing the detox he found that he didn't have the pain associated with colitis anymore, and the arthritis pain he had been suffering was hardly bothersome anymore either.

After talking to him I decided to check out detoxing for myself. I had in the past done the Dr. Atkins eating plan, and it did work for me. I was able to stick with it for five months the first year and a bit less than that the second year and although I had gained some of that weight back, I never gained back what I began with before starting the Atkins plan.

I have a negative handicap that many people don't have, I have to take a daily medicine that causes weight gain. In fact when I first began taking it, I gained fifty pounds within a short amount of time without eating any differently than normal. Therefore I'm always fighting against the properties in the medicine to lose the weight I need to lose.

I purchased a book on detoxing last year, it talks about losing 21 pounds in 21 days. It's the Martha Vineyard Diet Detox. A person can do the detox in either three days, seven days or 21 days. She recommends 21 days for the best results. The majority of the detox is juicing vegetables for the length of time decided upon. She suggests not working during that time period, and not eating, just juicing.
